The Paradox of Silence and Restoration: Understanding Matthew 8:4
“Then Jesus said to him, ‘See that you don’t tell anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’” — Matthew 8:4
At first glance, Matthew 8:4 sounds like a contradiction. Jesus has just performed a breathtaking miracle: He has reached out and touched a leper—an outcast ceremonially and socially dead under Mosaic Law—and instantly cured him. Human logic dictates that such an earth-shattering event should be broadcasted from the rooftops. Yet, Jesus strictly commands the man to remain silent and head straight for official channels.
