Mastering Audio: How to Add and Edit Music in VN Video Editor
Great background music can transform a standard video into a cinematic experience, set the exact emotional tone, and keep viewers hooked until the very last second. Whether you are cutting a fast-paced TikTok reel, a sleek YouTube vlog, or an Instagram story, the VN Video Editor makes incorporating audio seamless.
This guide walks you through everything you need to know to add, customize, and polish music tracks in the VN app like a pro.
Step 1: Open Your Project and Locate the Audio Track
Before adding music, ensure your video clips are imported and arranged on your timeline in the sequence you want.
- Launch the VN Video Editor on your mobile device or desktop.
- Open an existing project or tap the blue
+button to start a new project and select your video clips. - Look right below your main video track on the timeline. You will see a dedicated row labeled with a Music icon (often showing a musical note and the words “Tap to add music”).
Step 2: Choose and Add Your Music
VN gives you multiple ways to source your audio—whether you want to use built-in tracks, pull audio from a downloaded video, or upload your own files.
- Tap the Music track row (or tap the Music icon in the top toolbar overlaying the timeline).
- Select Music from the menu options.
- Choose from your preferred source tab:
- VN Library: Explore stock tracks and sound effects categorized by mood and genre.
- My Music / Files: Import local audio files (such as MP3s or AACs) saved directly on your device storage.
- Extract from Video: Import an audio track by selecting an existing video file from your camera roll; VN will automatically strip and convert the sound into an audio track.
- Find the track you want, tap Choose, and it will drop directly onto your timeline’s audio layer.
Step 3: Trim, Split, and Fine-Tune Your Audio
Once your music is on the timeline, you will likely need to adjust its length to match your visual pacing.
- Trimming Edges: Tap and hold the left or right edge of the audio block, then drag it inward or outward to shorten or extend the track duration.
- Splitting Clips: Move the white playhead timeline marker to the exact timestamp where you want to cut the music, then tap the Split tool in the bottom toolbar. This allows you to delete unwanted sections or move clips independently.
- Adjusting Volume: Tap the audio clip on your timeline and select Volume. Drag the slider up or down to find the ideal balance so your background music doesn’t drown out dialogue or main sound effects.
- Fade In / Fade Out: To prevent abrupt starts and stops, tap Fade on the bottom menu and set a brief second or two for the audio to smoothly fade in at the beginning and fade out at the end.
Pro Tips for Polishing Your Sound
Take your video audio to the next level with these advanced VN features:
- Add Music Beats: If you want your video cuts to sync with the rhythm of the track, tap Beats on the selected audio menu. You can manually flag beat points or use auto-generate features to place markers, making it effortless to snap your video transitions precisely onto the beat.
- Sound Effects (SFX): For an extra layer of immersion, go back to the music menu and explore the Sound FX tab to drop quick audio cues—like swooshes, clicks, or impacts—onto your timeline.
- Denoise & Voice Effects: If your project includes spoken dialogue alongside your music, select your voice tracks and utilize VN’s Denoise tool to clean up background hums, or experiment with voice modifiers if you’re going for a creative styling.
Step 4: Preview and Export
Always preview your final project by playing back the timeline from start to finish to ensure the audio timing lines up seamlessly with your visual edits. Once you are satisfied with the results, tap the Export arrow in the top right corner, choose your preferred resolution and frame rate, and save your masterpiece ready to share with the world!
