The Ultimate Guide to Combining Spotify Playlists: Streamline Your Music Library
Over the years, our Spotify accounts naturally accumulate digital clutter. You might have an old “Road Trip 2024” playlist, a sleepy-night ambient mix, a handful of workout anthems scattered across three different folders, and a dozen micro-playlists you made on a whim.
If you are tired of jumping between endless lists or want to merge your musical tastes with someone else, combining your Spotify playlists is the ultimate fix. From quick native mobile tools to collaborative blending features, here is how you can clean up, merge, and elevate your listening experience.
Method 1: The Native Shortcut (Mobile & Desktop)
Spotify makes it surprisingly easy to dump an entire playlist’s contents into another without having to drag and drop or add tracks one by one.
On Mobile (iOS & Android)
- Open the Spotify app and go to the playlist you want to absorb (the one you want to empty or merge away).
- Tap the three-dot menu icon (…) near the top of the playlist page.
- Scroll down and select “Add to other playlist”.
- Choose your target (main) playlist. Every track from the first playlist will instantly copy over.
On Desktop
- Open the desktop app and locate the playlist you want to move.
- Click the three dots on the playlist page (or right-click it in your left-hand sidebar).
- Select “Add to other playlist” and pick your destination.
- Alternative: You can also open a source playlist, press
Ctrl + A(Windows) orCmd + A(Mac) to select all songs, and drag and drop them directly into the target playlist on the sidebar.
Method 2: Mix Your Playlists with Seamless Transitions
Once you have successfully combined your favorite tracks into one mega-playlist, you might notice that jumping from a heavy metal track straight into acoustic indie folk feels jarring.
If you use Spotify Premium, you can take your combined playlist to the next level using the Mix feature:
- Auto Transitions: Open your newly combined playlist and select Mix to apply automated, smooth transitions between tracks.
- Custom Tweaks: You can edit the transitions to adjust volume crossfades, tweak the EQ (highs, mids, lows), or add low-pass/high-pass filter effects so your merged library flows like a professional DJ set.
Method 3: Spotify Blend (Combine Tastes, Not Just Lists)
If your goal isn’t just to tidy up your own library, but to combine your music taste with a friend, partner, or family member, use Spotify Blend:
- Go to the Search tab on your mobile device and tap the Made For You hub.
- Tap “Create a Blend”.
- Tap “Invite” and send the link to a friend via text, social media, or email.
- Once they accept, Spotify will automatically generate a dynamic, shared playlist combining both of your favorite tracks, complete with a taste-match score so you can see how aligned your music preferences really are!
Pro-Tip: Spring Cleaning Your Library Afterwards
Once you’ve successfully merged your smaller playlists into one master creation, don’t forget to delete the redundant old playlists to keep your library sleek and organized. If you’re sentimental and afraid of losing trace of them, you can also use Spotify’s Playlist Folders (available on the desktop app) to neatly categorize your newly merged collections into genres, decades, or vibes.
