Whether you just unwrapped a physical card or received a digital code in your inbox, using an iTunes (now Apple) gift card is a quick and straightforward process. Once redeemed, the funds go directly into your Apple Account balance, ready to be spent across Apple’s ecosystem.

Here is everything you need to know to redeem your gift card and make the most of your balance.

Step 1: Locate Your Code

Before jumping into your device, find your 16-digit code.

  • Physical Cards: Gently peel or scratch off the protective label on the back of the card to reveal the code, which always starts with the letter X.
  • Digital Cards: Open the email containing the gift card, where you will typically see a direct “Redeem Now” button or the printed 16-digit code.

Step 2: Redeem the Card on Your Device

On an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Tap your profile photo, initials, or the sign-in icon at the top right of the screen.
  3. Select Redeem Gift Card or Code. (If prompted, sign in with your Apple Account.)
  4. Choose Use Camera to scan the back of the card, or select Enter Code Manually to type the 16-digit code out.
  5. Tap Redeem.

(Note: In supported regions, you can also redeem cards directly through the Wallet app by tapping your Apple Account card and selecting Redeem.)

On a Mac

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Click your name or the sign-in button in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar.
  3. Click Redeem Code.
  4. Use your Mac’s camera to scan the card or enter the code manually, then finalize the process.

On a Windows PC

  1. Open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app.
  2. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and select Redeem.
  3. Enter the 16-digit code from your card or email and confirm.

Step 3: What Can You Buy With Your Balance?

Once the funds are credited to your account, your Apple Account balance acts as the default payment method for a wide variety of digital goods and services:

  • Apps & Games: Purchase paid apps, games, and downloadable content or microtransactions from the App Store.
  • Subscriptions: Pay for recurring services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, or expanded iCloud+ storage tiers.
  • Entertainment: Buy or rent movies and TV shows through the Apple TV app, or purchase audiobooks and music.
  • Apple Hardware (Where Available): In many regions, your combined Apple Account balance can be used to buy physical products, accessories, or devices directly from apple.com or inside the Apple Store app.

Pro-Tips for Managing Your Balance

  • Check Your Balance Anytime: You can view your remaining store credit instantly by opening the App Store, tapping your profile picture, and looking right under your name.
  • Automatic Priority: When you make a purchase, Apple will automatically draw from your gift card balance first before charging any credit or debit cards you have linked to your account.
  • Keep a Backup Payment Method: Even with a gift card balance loaded, certain subscriptions or purchases may require you to have a standard credit card or valid payment method on file for verification purposes.
